Do you know of an amateur who exhibits excellence and integrity by supporting fellow competitors and volunteering their resources to the industry? If so, it’s time to nominate him or her for the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association Amateur Sportsmanship Award.
In its fourth year, the award was created by the USHJA Amateur Committee to honor an amateur for his or her contributions to the sport.
“While amateurs are very dedicated to horse showing, they’re also committed to giving back to the industry. We wanted to find a way to recognize the amateurs who go above and beyond,” said Betty Oare, vice-chairman of the USHJA Amateur Committee.
“This award is about the bigger picture—demonstrating a genuine love of the horse, helping fellow competitors, giving back to the sport by volunteering to sit on committees or assisting at shows, and being generous with their time in the industry in general,” added Oare. “For that reason, it’s called a sportsmanship award because it encompasses a lot more than just show ring success.”
