After some concern over import and export protocols, horse sports have been cleared to take place at the Deodoro Olympic Park near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the 2016 Olympic Games.

On Oct. 30, The Associated Press reported that Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and the European Union reached an agreement on horse import and export requirements.

Last month the president of the Brazilian Equestrian Confederation, Luiz Roberto Giugni, spoke up about the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture not yet finalizing or publishing information about the import and export of the equine athletes. Guigni also said if protocols were not decided soon, there was a chance that equestrian sports would not take place within Brazil.

But the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture published the necessary health certificate information on Nov. 4.

The Fédération Equestre Internationale officials they are pleased to have the dispute settled, and the organization has continued planning to ensure the Games run smoothly next year.

“We are all very much looking forward to seeing the Olympic equestrian events kick off next August at our stunning venue in Deodoro,” said FEI President Ingmar De Vos in an emailed statement. “We have been working for some time with the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, the Brazilian and Rio Authorities, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian National Equestrian Federation, and the news is extremely welcome.”
