New Fundraisers Set To Support Martin After Fire

When the barn housing 11 horses in Boyd Martin’s program burned to the ground on May 31, not only did six horses die, but Martin also lost a third of his business.

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment and tack were lost in the fire. Residents of the apartment over the barn (Caitlin Silliman, Ryan Wood and Lillian Heard) also need to replace their belongings.

When the barn housing 11 horses in Boyd Martin’s program burned to the ground on May 31, not only did six horses die, but Martin also lost a third of his business.

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment and tack were lost in the fire. Residents of the apartment over the barn (Caitlin Silliman, Ryan Wood and Lillian Heard) also need to replace their belongings.

In response, many businesses and individuals alike are donating funds to help with the recovery process:

– Foxhill Eventing in Centreville, Md. will be holding  summer eventing lecture series   with the first clinic on July 6th with a portion of the proceeds going to the Boyd Martin Fire Relief Fund. 

– Stony Brook Farm of Peterborough, N.H., is hosting a 2-day clinic with Boyd Martin on August     20th and 21st, proceeds to go to Boyd and Silva Martin Relief Fund.

– Jacqueline Mars & The O’Connor Event Team will host a Boyd Martin Fire Relief Fundraiser on Saturday, June 25 at the Meredyth Farm Pavillion in The Plains, Va., including a live and silent auction. Email Faye Woolf for details.

– Plantation Field Equestrian Events of the Plantation Fields Horse Trials in Unionville, Pa. raised $8000 for the relief efforts by opening its course for a cross-country schooling day on June 13.

Jane Sleeper and her students ran a bake sale in conjunction with the Plantation Fields schooling day and the June 11-12 Plantation Field Horse Trials to raise an additional $2,000, bringing the three-day fundraising total to $10,000.

– Professional Riders Organization has teamed up with Southern California Equestrian Sports Foundation to put together an auction on Ebay, the proceeds of which will go to True Prospect.

– Equestrian Events, Inc. will make a $1,500 donation plus give 5% of all sales of merchandise sold through the Kentucky Three-Day Event Shop at http://www.rk3de.org/shop/ for the next 60 days.

– Doug Payne Equestrian will donate 50% of all merchandise sold in 2011 to True Prospect Farm

Seneca Valley Pony Club will donate a portion of its proceeds from the Spring Horse Trials to SVPC

  Alumnus Lillian Heard.

 Five Star Tack will donate a percentage of sales to the TPF fire relief fund.

– Until June 30th, Dudley’s Tack Shop will donate 50% of the proceeds to Boyd Martin and TPF.

– Make a tax-deductable donation to an account set up through SCES.

– Make a direct donation to True Prospect Farm.

– Donate directly to Ryan Wood, Caitlin Silliman or Lillian Heard using the buttons on the Martin’s blog.

– Attend the Fitch’s Corner Clear Round Jumping Fundraiser in Millbrook, N.Y., on June 4. 

– Attend the benefit schooling jumper show at Overlook Farm in Berryville, Va., on June 15.

– ECOGOLD donated six saddle pads, one for each horse lost in the fire, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Martin. All six of the saddle pads were sold within a short time of the sale being posted on the ECOGOLD Facebook page, and in light of the outstanding show of support, ECOGOLD is offering an unlimited number of saddle pads for sale with 50 percent of the profits going to Martin.

– A fundraiser held at The Whip Tavern in Unionville, Pa., raised $6,800. See photos from the event.

– Martin’s sponsor Arenus has set up a special promotion so that customers can support the victims of the fire by entering promo code PRP-72378 to have 15 percent of the sale donated to Boyd Martin. – Denny Emerson is donating half the royalties from his new book, How Good Riders Get Good

– Photographer Amy K. Dragoo will give 20 percent of all her print sales this year to the True Prospect Farm Recover Fund.

Five Star Tack will donate 10 percent of their June sales to the True Prospect Farm Fire Recovery Fund.

– The Professional Riders Organization is organizing a benefit auction on eBay that should go live on June 13. If you would like to donate something for the auction, you’ll need to send PRO the following information:

1. Photo – if possible
2. Detailed description
3. Value
4. Donor info as you would like it to be listed
5. Name, telephone number and email address.

Donations will be tax-deductable through the Southern California Equestrian Sports Foundation.

The Carolina Horse Park will donate a portion of its upcoming proceeds to the fire recovery funds.
