Iron Spring Farm’s Friesian stallion Heinse 354 colicked and died on May 20. He was 15.
Heinse had a long and impressive career in the United States and the Netherlands. A two-time winner of the Dutch National Driving Championships, he was also a three-time Dutch National Champion Friesian stallion.
Owner Mary Alice Malone imported him in 2004 to her Coatesville, Pa., farm. The pair earned numerous accolades in the dressage ring at fourth level and Prix St. Georges.

He was honored by the KFPS when he was asked to return to the Netherlands to perform at the organization’s 125th anniversary show. Heinse and Malone performed musical freestyles during the gala evening entertainment.
“Heinse was the type of horse that anyone would love to have in the barn,” remembered Malone. “He was fun to ride and show, easy to be around and produced outstanding offspring.”
Heinse sired three approved stallions, including Meinse 439, who will carry out his father’s legacy at Iron Spring Farm.
