The country is many square miles of the Mojave Desert and remote canyons on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada near the tiny town of Inyokern, Calif. Nearly all of the hunted country is public land controlled by the Bureau of Land Management and a portion at the edge of the Sequoia National Forest. The vast country is covered with large creosote bushes and small rabbit brush making a horse essential to properly see and follow the hounds. There are no fences and only a few paved roads that are easily avoided. Hazards include sharp Cholla cactus and snakes, and the occasional rattlesnake.
