Mr. Benson was a frequent poster on The Chronicle of the Horse Forum, where he was known as “County.” He was, as one bulletin board member noted, “a completely polarizing personality here, either you loved him, or you hated him with a passion, but, his love for his horses never was in question.”

Mr. Benson is survived by his wife Jessica Benson, Randall, Minn., parents Sherman and Louise Benson, Sun City, Ariz., daughters Katie Keene and Laura Brekke, of Otsego, Minn., son Joshua Benson, Elk River, Minn., brothers Chris Benson of Arizona and Bruce Benson, Anoka, Minn., and eight grandchildren.
