Galway Downs International organizers have canceled the event’s CCI*** this fall due to lack of entries. The CCI*, CCI** and horse trials divisions will still run Nov. 1- Nov. 4 at the Galway Downs Equestrian Center in Temecula, California.
“There’s just a lack of horsepower in our part of the world right now,” said Robert Kellerhouse, event organizer at Galway Downs. “It’s always a down year right after a championship; there’s just not that many CCI*** horses on the planet to do this sport on a regular basis.”
Galway Downs added the CCI*** in 2010.

In advance of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Kellerhouse said he believes entries will pick back up next year.
“With the pre-Olympic year, things become a little more serious with qualifications,” said Kellerhouse. “People [try] to get things that they have to have done, and the events become more of a mandate than the year before the Olympic Games in the fall.”
