The British eventing squad lost a key player when, according to Horse & Hound, Pippa Funnell announced that she is withdrawing Primmore\’s Pride from the team for this summer\’s World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, Aug. 20-Sept. 3. Funnell and “Kiri” won the Rolex Kentucky CCI**** and the Burghley CCI**** (England) in 2003, giving Funnell two of the three legs of her historic win in the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. They also secured the individual bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games, helping the British team take the silver medal, and won the Badminton CCI**** (England) in 2005. After some time off, Kiri had returned to competition this spring, finishing fourth in an advanced intermediate class last weekend. Funnell did not have a reserve horse named to the list, as her other four-star winner and 2000 Olympic mount, Supreme Rock, was retired last year, and Cornerman was sold. She has withdrawn the bay gelding, owned by Metier Consulting and Roger and Denise Lincoln due to a training setback. Sharon Hunt and Tankers Town, who finished sixth at the Badminton CCI**** (England) in May, will replace the pair, joining Daisy Dick/Spring Along, William Fox-Pitt/Tamarillo, Mary King/Call Again Cavalier, Zara Phillips/Toytown, and Oliver Townend/Flint Curtis.
