Dr. Bo Helander, who\’s been the Federation Equestre Internationale\’s secretary general for 10 years, has resigned from his position, as of Aug. 31.
According to a statement from the FEI, Helander “made his decision to open the way for the important changes that will occur in the near future with the implementation of the new structure of the FEI, which was approved in April at the FEI General Assembly, in the frame of the new strategic plan.” Helander served as head of the FEI legal department before taking over as the federation\’s chief executive in 1995.

Organizationally, the FEI has been rocked in the last year by botched drug tests and other embarrassing administrative failures. Delegates agreed at the General Assembly that it was time to make their federation more professional.
Added the statement, “The FEI Executive Board and Bureau expressed their appreciation and thank Dr. Helander for his dedication and all the work accomplished during his tenure at the FEI.” He will continue as a senior advisor to the Executive Board.
