ELOISE MOLTER GROVES

Eloise “Judy” Molter Lawrence Groves, an accomplished horsewoman from Berwyn, Pa., died on May 31. She was 88.

Mrs. Groves was born in New Orleans, La. She graduated from the Garrison Forest School (Md.) where she began her equestrian career. An avid foxhunter, she hunted with the Radnor (Pa.), Cheshire (Pa.) and Warrenton (Va.) hunt clubs and traveled to Ireland as well.

Eloise “Judy” Molter Lawrence Groves, an accomplished horsewoman from Berwyn, Pa., died on May 31. She was 88.

Mrs. Groves was born in New Orleans, La. She graduated from the Garrison Forest School (Md.) where she began her equestrian career. An avid foxhunter, she hunted with the Radnor (Pa.), Cheshire (Pa.) and Warrenton (Va.) hunt clubs and traveled to Ireland as well.

She regularly competed in horse shows up and down the East Coast with her horse Highlander. They achieved prestigious wins at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show and the National Horse Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

As a frequent traveler, photographer and adventurer, Mrs. Groves explored countries around the world, including Nepal, Afghanistan, Iran, China and Africa. She held a private pilot’s license and was a member of the Philadelphia Trap Shooting League.

Mrs. Groves was predeceased by her daughter Laura Atherton Lawrence, of Warrenton, Va., and by her husbands Amory Lawrence, John Hill III and K. Deane Groves. She is survived by her cousin, Boatner Reily III, New Orleans, La.
