Dressage Rider Carol Plough Passes Away

Grand Prix dressage rider and judge Carol J. Plough, of Riverside, Calif., died on May 16 from a pulmonary embolism during minor surgery. She was 50.

Mrs. Plough was long-listed for the Olympic dressage team in 2004 with Kathy Pavlich's Komo and placed second in the Offield Las Vegas Invitational at the FEI World Cup Finals in 2005.

Grand Prix dressage rider and judge Carol J. Plough, of Riverside, Calif., died on May 16 from a pulmonary embolism during minor surgery. She was 50.

Mrs. Plough was long-listed for the Olympic dressage team in 2004 with Kathy Pavlich’s Komo and placed second in the Offield Las Vegas Invitational at the FEI World Cup Finals in 2005.

A featured rider in the Chronicle’s Dressage Issue (June 25, 2004), Mrs. Plough was an important member of the California dressage community. She trained with Debbie McDonald and spent six months in 2003 training with Bert Rutten of the Netherlands, gaining experience on the international dressage scene.

She was also a successful trainer, coaching student Kristina Harrison-Naness to the USET Intermediaire I Championship in 2003, and then on to the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo.

There will be a memorial service at Shadow Ridge Equestrian Center on May 27 at 10 a.m. Shadow Ridge is located at 7256 Weaver St., Highland, CA 92346. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
