Show jumper Katie Dinan has an exciting new mount in her stable: Roger Yves Bost’s Olympic gold medal-winning mount Sydney Une Prince.

“ ‘Sydney’ obviously has had an amazing career with Roger, and she’s always stood out to me as a horse I really loved on the circuit,” said Dinan. “Having a horse like this coming to the barn is basically a dream come true. She landed in Miami yesterday, and she’ll do quarantine in Florida, and then I’ll bring her up to New York, home for me, and spend the next few weeks getting to know her.”

Fellow French rider Frederic Aronio De Romblay started the 12-year-old Selle Français mare (Baloubet Du Rouet—Girl D’Elbe, Alfa D’Elle) in the young horse and two-star classes before “Bosty” took over the reins.

The pair went on to win numerous five-star grand prix classes and were named to France’s team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro. The pair added just 2 time faults in the team competition to help France win gold.

“Thank you, thank you my Sydney for everything you’ve given,” Bost wrote on his Facebook page. “To me, to Claude who has always been there for you, to François Badel who has allowed us to form this couple, to Philippe Guerdat who believed in you, in us, to our beautiful Olympic gold medal with the French team. Today, a page turns, and I wish you Sydney much success with your new rider. You’ll have a special place among the most important horses in my life. Thank you.”

“She’s done just about everything with Bosty, so it’s more up to me at this point to learn how to ride the horse and build a good partnership with her,” said Dinan, 24. “If I have the partnership with her there’s nothing we can’t do, so it’s just a matter of working up to that level. I obviously have big hopes and dreams for us, and we just have to stay patient.

“I went in to the trial with the mindset of: I know this is an amazing horse, but I have to feel that we have a good connection too,” she continued. “If you have an amazing horse but don’t feel good riding it, it doesn’t matter how good the horse is. But I had a really good feeling riding her, so I’m super, super excited. She has all the qualities I dream about in a horse, and I think Bosty is one of the best riders in the world and did an unbelievable job bringing her up. I’m really lucky to be getting a horse like that, and I’m super grateful to everyone who made that happen for me.”
