Darragh Kenny of Ireland won the 1.45m Whiteface Mountain Open Jumper Stake on Wednesday at the 43rd annual Lake Placid Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.
Debbie Stephens of Palmetto, FL was the first rider to try the 13-jump first-round course at the North Elba Showgrounds and she rode Swagger to a fault-free ride, one of six ultimately turned in. She then rode fault-free again over the seven-jump, jump-off course finishing in 36.508 seconds. Two rides later, Kenny returned to the ring on Sandor De La Pomme and his time of 34.749 seconds moved Stephens out of the lead and proved good enough for the win.
Stephens placed second and Michael Dorman of Jamison, PA finished third with a jump-off time of 38.623 seconds on Seventh Fee.
Other winners on Wednesday included Kaitlin Campbell on Grand Pleasure in the 1.35m Lake Placid Summit Resort Hotel & Suites Jumper Class; Benjamin Simpkins on Chopin Z in the Deeridge Farms Amateur-Owner Jumper Class; Charlotte Jacobs on Kachina in the Junior Jumper class; and Luis Larrazabal on G&C Leroy, Darragh Kenny on Winchester and Kenny again on Cyrina Z in the three sections of the 1.30m Saratoga Eagle Jumper Class.
