Old Favorites
Artist Evelyn C. Cowles painted a collection of favorite hounds hunted by Jack Sewell, MFH of Mooreland Hunt in Huntsville, Ala., and former president of the Masters of Foxhounds Association.

Sewell wrote about the hounds he chose for this portrait: “Mooreland Legend ’96 [top left] is the best I’ve ever seen. Lawless ’96 [bottom right], a littermate to Legend (of the best litters we’ve ever entered), is out of Mooreland Lyric ’90 (Warwickshire) by Hillsboro-Cedar Knob Swimmer ’88. Mooreland Elude ’97 [top right] is out of Mooreland Ellendale ’92 (part of our most successful and dominant “E line” of more than 40 years) by Live Oak Drummer ’89 (one of their best ever). Mooreland Wheeler ’98 [bottom left] is out of Mooreland Elba ’94 (of the same “E line”) by Midland’s College Valley Wager ’91.

“For their friendship through the years and help in producing these hounds, I am forever grateful to Henry Hooker and Johnny Gray, Marty and Daphne Wood, and to Ben Hardaway and Mason Lampton,” noted Sewell.

Cowles’ original painting Old Favorites is a 20″ x 20″ oil on canvas. Cowles resides in Free Union, Va.
