Dayo’s Support Team
Artist Melissa Kohout, Fort Worth, Texas, received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Texas-Austin and graduated with high honors while receiving two Ford Foundations Scholorships.

Her work, both equine and bovine, has appeared on numerous magazine covers and in exhibitions throughout the country. This week’s cover, Dayo’s Support Team, is a graphite pencil commissioned by Meliss Tyson of Pasadena, Calif.

Dayo is a jumper who lives in Southern California, and in the painting he’s surrounded by his team as they all pitch in to get him to the ring. From left to right: Shoonig, a Doberman-German shepherd cross; Mimosa, a German shepherd puppy; Gadoo, the cat; and Leonard Bernswine, the pot-bellied pig. “We all understand the importance of a good team,” added Kohout.
