Summer Time
Artist Anita Baarns was born in Fountainbleau, France, and raised in the Netherlands. In 1988, she came to the United States and entered Northern Virginia Community College, where she majored in studio fine arts. After earning her degree, summa cum laude, in May 1991, she entered the University of Maryland. She majored in studio fine arts and earned her bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in May 1993.

Summer Time
Artist Anita Baarns was born in Fountainbleau, France, and raised in the Netherlands. In 1988, she came to the United States and entered Northern Virginia Community College, where she majored in studio fine arts. After earning her degree, summa cum laude, in May 1991, she entered the University of Maryland. She majored in studio fine arts and earned her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in May 1993.

In 1992, she was granted a United States patent for a process for creating artworks by application of crayon and ink. Her oil paintings have been exhibited at the American Academy of Equine Art in Lexington, Ky. In 1996 and ’98, she was the official artist for the International Gold Cup Races (Va.).

Summer Time, in an 8″x10″ oil on linen of a Piedmont (Va.) Foxhound puppy. “This puppy played with me in the kennels for an hour, then supper was served and he was ready for a nap right away,” said Baarns. “Then I started taking pictures!”

Baarns established her studio at Meadow View Farm in Round Hill, Va., where she rides dressage, hunts with the Piedmont Foxhounds and Fairfax Hunt, and specializes in painting horses in their natural surroundings. She’s now a naturalized citizen of the United States.
