Lyric Suite by Marcia Spivak

Marcia Spivak, of Wilton, Conn., has been a passionate horse owner and admirer since childhood. The expressiveness and gestures of her equine companions inspired her to create both small and life-sized horse sculptures out of welded steel.

Using discarded shards of steel sheet, plate and rod that she often finds in junkyards, Spivak accentuates the various parts of a horse’s ana-tomy. Her steel horses are characterized by their arched necks, protruding bellies and unsuspecting grace and movement.

Spivak graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a degree in communication arts. She studies with master sculptor David Boyajian at The Sculpture Barn in New Fairfield, Conn., and with renowned artist Mark Parsons at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, Conn.

This week’s cover, Lyric Suite, is a 58″H x 45″L x 12″W welded sculpture with found steel. Winner of several juried show awards, Spivak markets her pieces primarily to private collectors.
