Refined Beauty By Arden Cone

Artist Arden Cone is a regular contributor to our annual Junior Gallery in the Junior & Pony issue (May 16), which featured her watercolor painting i to eye on the opening page.

This year Cone, 17, Landrum, S.C., submitted four paintings, including this week’s cover, Refined Beauty, a watercolor depicting a rider and her horse hacking out with the beauty of the Carolina Piedmont as a backdrop.

Arden competes in hunter/ jumper divisions and is from a family of horsemen. Her father, Lee, is a horse trainer, and her mother, Amanda, is an amateur rider and artist. Her older sister Bailey, 19, is also a past Chronicle cover artist and was a featured member of the Junior Gallery.

This is Arden’s second cover painting; her first cover, Good Times, appeared on the 2006 Junior &
Pony issue.
