Smith, a C-3 Pony Clubber with the Northern Mines Pony Club in the Sierra Pacific Region, drew this drawing as a donation to the club auction for their fundraising dressage show on May 19.

Smith said this particular drawing is representational of her style, although when she started the drawing she
decided to try a new idea. “I thought maybe if I didn’t blend the shadows it might work,” she said. “And it evolved on its own.”

Erin’s mother, April Smith, said she had a feeling Erin had artistic talents when she was just 7 years old and the family went outside to play in the snow.

“Her older sister made a snowman, you know with the round balls, and we said to Erin, ‘Where’s your snowman?’ She hadn’t made a snowman, she’d made a horse! And it didn’t come from us—we’re not artistic. This is a God-given talent.”

Erin, a junior at Bear River High School, plans to attend art school after graduation. She intends to study animation and hopes one day to work for Disney, Pixar or Lucasfilm.
