Horse Block Herd By Susan Leyland

Artist Susan Leyland said she feels fortunate that her love of horses and art have come together as a natural combination.

“My visual memory and many years of observation are vital when sculpting my horses,” she said. “Molded in the clay are my emotions and love as well as knowledge of anatomy and horse psychology. I also feel very fortunate to do something I love doing, and I hope I am able to give joy to those who come across my work.”

Leyland, Florence, Italy, enjoys sculpting and developing new shapes and fusing horses, blocks and spheres to create what she calls “Horse Block Sculptures.” This week’s cover, Horse Block Herd, a 10″ x 6″ x 6″ sculpture was on display during the American Academy of Equine Art exhibition held during the Rolex Kentucky CCI****.

She’s currently represented in the United States by The Cambridge Art Gallery, Santa Monica, Calif., and continues to work with Alan Kluckow Fine Art in London. Through the latter gallery Leyland has been entrusted to make sculptures depicting the three Olympic disciplines that will be on exhibit before and during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
