Leader Of The Pack By Beth Carlson

Beth Carlson’s sporting art paintings, foxes and dog portraits are coveted by many animal lovers across the country. Her ability to capture an individual animal’s personality and physical characteristics can be directly attributed to her far-reaching knowledge pertaining to animals in general.

Carlson also draws on natural surroundings to realistically depict her subjects with accurate detail and a sincere amount of authenticity.

In addition to the Chronicle, Carlson’s oil paintings have graced the covers of such publications as Gray’s Sporting Journal, The Field Trial Magazine, The Pointing Dog Journal, The American Brittany Magazine and The Charleston Mercury. She’s an associate member of Women Artists of the West and Oil Painters of America. She’s best known for her sporting dog portraits in landscapes.

Two of her paintings are now in permanent possession of The Brittany Hall of Fame in the Bird Dog Museum in Grand Junction, Tenn. Her work is represented by several galleries, including Dog & Horse Fine Art & Portraiture in Charleston, (S.C.), Rhett Gallery (S.C.), Beresford Gallery (Pa.) and CrossGate Gallery (Ky.).

“[Beth Carlson’s] work blends the style of English realism with a taste of French impressionism, a pleasant combination which carries on the warm, traditional look of sporting art,” said Robert Abbett, the renowned sporting art artist and author, in Brittany magazine.

This week’s cover, Leader Of The Pack, depicts John and Sue Greenall’s animals on their Vermont farm. “They frequently are found roaming the farm loose like this,” said Carlson.

Carlson is a whipper-in for the Wentworth Hunt (N.H.) and works out of her studio on a farm in Bath, Maine, that she shares with her husband, horses and dogs.
