American Horse Council officials announced on Aug. 28 that Ericka Caslin has been appointed director of the Unwanted Horse Coalition.
Caslin is a graduate of Virginia Tech’s animal sciences program and has been an active member of the hunter/jumper community for more than 10 years, competing at shows throughout the country.
For the past four years she served as administrative director of the Washington International Horse Show (D.C.). Caslin handled many aspects of the event, from planning a large part of the show to maintaining relationships with many of the integral people and foundations within the equestrian industry.

“We are happy to have Ericka join the team. She brings great enthusiasm and an understanding of the horse industry,” said Tom Lenz, chairman of the coalition.
“My focus and passion has always been horses, and I am truly fortunate to have found a position in which I can share my knowledge and experience of the equestrian industry. The problems of the unwanted horse population are something I feel very strongly about, and I am looking forward to affecting positive change in my new position,” said Caslin.
