CAROLINE BEVINS-TAYLOR

Caroline Bevins-Taylor, show hunter rider and veterinarian, died Aug. 1 during surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center for a non-riding injury incurred at the Kentucky Horse Park. She was 46.

Caroline Bevins-Taylor, show hunter rider and veterinarian, died Aug. 1 during surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center for a non-riding injury incurred at the Kentucky Horse Park. She was 46.

Originally from Ashland, Ky., Dr. Bevins-Taylor traveled the world, eventually settling in Frankfort, Ky. She graduated with honors from Ohio State University and Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (Ala.) in 1987, focusing on small animal clinical medicine. She owned and operated Bevins Animal Hospital in Frankfort and served on the Kentucky Board of Veterinary Examiners.

In addition to her work in veterinary medicine, Dr. Bevins-Taylor was a successful entrepreneur in several other endeavors, thanks to her natural leadership abilities. She made a positive difference in every life she touched and every animal she cared for. Her love for animals was particularly well illustrated by her volunteer animal rescue efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Bevins-Taylor was an avid equestrian, competing around the country in the adult amateur hunter division with her horse Summer Tan. She was also a board member of the Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association.

Dr. Bevins-Taylor was an active member of the Franklin County Humane Society, the March Of Dimes, Franklin County 4-H Club and Woodmen of the World Fraternal Benefit Society.

Dr. Bevins-Taylor is survived by her mother, Anna M. Crawford, her brother, Stephen J. Crawford, and her fiancé, Dr. James W. Bosler III.
