Canada Earns First NAJYRC Team Medal

Despite record-breaking heat, the girls from up north came away with the first team medal of the CN North American Junior and Young Riders Championship.

Canada Team West won the team medal for young riders in dressage on Aug. 2 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington with a score of 202.4.

Despite record-breaking heat, the girls from up north came away with the first team medal of the CN North American Junior and Young Riders Championship.

Canada Team West won the team medal for young riders in dressage on Aug. 2 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington with a score of 202.4.

Alexandra Duncan, of West Vancouver, B.C., led the team with her score of 68.5 percent on Elektra. Pia Fortmuller, of Burnaby, B.C., scored 68.1 percent on Donagna, Tara Dougans of Toronto, Ont., scored 65.7 percent on Nashua and Gabrielle Anderson of Bentley, Alta., scored 59.1 percent on Talisman to round out the team.
   
Region 2 gained the silver medal with 201.8 as well as the high-score of the day with Kassandra Barteau’s winning ride on Bentley (70.3%).  Barteau came from St. Gilberts, Ill.  Her teammates included: Kaitlyn Hamilton, of Oxford, Mich., on Noviembre, Brittany McCarthy, of Cincinnati, Ohio, on Cinbad and Allie Nichols, of Cincinnati, Ohio, on Lexington.

Region 3 was just .2 behind in third place. Caroline Roffman, of Wellington, Fla., had the second-best score of the day aboard Bulgari V (69.6%).
The individual competition will conclude on Saturday evening after the Young Riders Individual test and the freestyle test.
