Solem’s student Brielle Grabas took home the blue ribbon over the weekend when she won the Open Equitation class with Tax Free, owned by Tammy Smith. Solem noted, “This is only Brielle’s third show with Tax Free and she is doing really well; they are starting to click really nicely. I think she really enjoys him because he is very brave and it is nice to know you have a brave horse in those classes.”

Competing under the Horseshoe Trail Farm, LLC banner, which is Solem’s partner, Virginia McNeil’s Saltwood Kite, driven by Rebekah Robinson, was Grand Champion in the Carriage Driving Grand Prix. The pair also won the top prize in the Single Pony Driving competition.

VDL Torlando, Solem’s top mount, navigated both Grand Prix events with double clear rounds. This success marked the sixth clear round in a row for the stallion and his rider.

In the $100,000 Upperville Jumper Classic, the duo finished up with fourth place honors, despite riding first in the jump-off. “He has really come into his own this year,” said Solem. “He has a new level of maturity in the ring and he understands what it is all about. He has been really consistent at three different venues and he has really handled everything beautifully.”

The stable also is pleased to congratulate Bright Star, LLC on the purchase this week of High Consul for Louise Serio. Virginia McNeil’s young hunter, with Callan Solem aboard, had been the 2010 Ocala Winter Circuit Low Hunter Circuit Grand Champion, as well as Circuit Pre-Green Reserve Grand Champion. This spring, High Consul was Pre-Green Champion at Garden State and Pre-Green Reserve Champion at Culpeper.

Callan Solem Show Stables will next be traveling to Lake Placid. The competitions will be held June 29-July 11, 2010, in Lake Placid, NY.
