Also at the Lake Placid Horse Show, Solem had her own success in the Grand Prix of Lake Placid aboard VDL Torlando. The pair was first to advance to the jump-off, but after a fence blew down in the middle of the round the trip was cut short.  Solem continued once the fence was reset, and a time of 47.00 seconds was awarded for their clear effort, which held up for the second place prize.

“Torlando was great,” said Solem. “He is a really good listener and he does whatever you tell him to do. I think the judges did the best job that they could have finding a time because it was a hard situation in that class.” The next week Solem and VDL Torlando completed a second double-clear round during the Open Jumper Classic, earning the fourth place honors.

The success continued for Callan Solem’s barn during the I Love New York Horse Show, July 6 through July 11, 2010, when Virginia McNeil, Chester Springs, PA, won the Adult Amateur Jumper reserve championship prize on her horse, Will Stop. The pair shared the reserve honors with three other riders!

McNeil’s daughter, Lee Lee, also scored a reserve championship award when she completed three successful classes with Sparky, owned by Michael Hughes, in the Pony Jumper division.  The talented pony gave her the confidence to show for the first time in the Pony Jumper division.
