A Busy Weekend At Paradise

As the eventing season continues on, we’ve had a really busy week at Phillip’s place. Between training sessions and events mid week and on the weekend, things are well under way and going quite well for us.

I just got through the Paradise Horse Trials this weekend, and with four to ride it was an exciting, busy and rewarding weekend for me. I was thrilled with the three horses that moved up at this event. They had quite a test on the cross-country day.

I just got through the Paradise Horse Trials this weekend, and with four to ride it was an exciting, busy and rewarding weekend for me. I was thrilled with the three horses that moved up at this event. They had quite a test on the cross-country day.

Walkabout did his first preliminary this weekend, and though I ran him slow, he had no problem stepping up to the challenge. I look forward to the future this horse will have. The more you ask of him the more he wants to give you.

Chasing Dreams also competed in his first training level this weekend, and I was impressed with the scope he showed. He is going to be a great horse no matter what he ends up doing. He finished this weekend in fourth, which was quite a respectable finish in a big field.

Roosevelt competed in his first training level at only his second event. Though he showed some greenness in a few of the phases, I think he’s going to be a wonderful horse. He jumped around quite well on the tough cross-country course.

I rode a lovely horse named Ularinka this weekend, owned by Nina Gardner, and I am quite impressed with this amazing young mare. After scoring a career best for me of 20 in the dressage, she jumped around amazingly well, and took away a blue ribbon from the weekend, besting quite a big field.

Today I ride with Mark Phillips over at Three Runs this afternoon, and I am excited to have Cambalda back in action, ready to improve our partnership.

It’s weird to think last year I was making these trips with Cooper. I find myself still missing him so much. Though I am thrilled and lucky to have so many great things going on, I still get thrown back into wondering “what if” he was still here.

Horses are great because they humble you and make you so grateful and appreciative for what they do….

I hope everyone is having a great time watching the Winter Olympics…. how unreal is Shaun White?!?
