British Eventers Show Grassroots Support For Traditional Three-Day

The traditional-format three-day event may be almost extinct at the three- and four-star levels, especially in Europe, but Britain's grassroots riders, like their counterparts in the United States, clearly still want to ride in the full-format events.

British Eventing has confirmed venues for five pre-novice (the equivalent of training level here) three-day events next year, according to www.horseandhound.co.uk.

The new events will begin at Chepstow in May, followed by Great Witchingham, Strathallan and Oasby in July and September. The last event will be Aldon at the end of the season, in October.

These “half-stars” are already quite popular in the United States, and more may be added to the calendar. They’re usually run as a combination of clinic and competition so that competitors can use them to learn what riding in a traditional three-day is all about.
