The German National Olympic Committee announced on Tuesday, June 8, that it would not block the nomination of Ulla Salzgeber and Rusty to the German Olympic dressage team, if they qualify in the selection trials. The German selectors—and the country’s thousands of dressage fans—had been anxiously awaiting the decision, delivered just three days before the German selection trials begin.

Salzgeber’s situation was uncertain since she’d been disqualified as the winner of the 2003 FEI World Cup Final last November when Rusty’s urine and blood samples tested positive for testosterone propianate. Salzgeber was subsequently suspended by the German Equestrian Federation during March and April.

The NOC decision stated that the case wasn’t severe enough to prevent Salzgeber’s nomination to the Olympic team, a decision ratified by the National Anti-Drug Agency. The selection trials are being held at the German Championships at Balve, June 10-13.
