With an incredible memory for every hunt she’d ever participated in, Mrs. Payne could recount in detail any day that she and her friends had been out, including the number of jumps taken and which horses were used. She loved to accompany children out on their first hunts and share her passion for the world of foxhunting.
Mrs. Payne taught at the 4-H Club summer camp in Front Royal, Va., and was a member of the Welsh Pony Society where she served as show secretary for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles Eugene Payne, her son Robert Payne, and two brothers, Robert Rouse Moore, Jr. and Richard Barbour Moore.
