Boyd Exell, Australia\'s hope for a World Equestrian Games medal in four-in-hand driving, broke his leg in six places and will be unable to compete at the World Championships in Aachen, Germany.

According to reports from Horse & Hound, the British-based Exell was at home on July 23 driving a four-wheeler with a carriage attached to the back. He mistakenly downshifted gears when he should have upshifted, somersaulting the four-wheeler.

"It landed on me twice, dragged me and ran over my legs," said Exell.

The reigning British National Champion had surgery on July 25 to have his leg pinned. He also broke his ankle and received stitches in his face.
