Attwood Equestrian Surfaces (AES) is pleased to announce their sponsorship of the Intermediate Division at the Green Mountain Horse Assiociation (GMHA) Festival of Eventing. Plans for the inaugural three-competition Festival, to be held in South Woodstock, Vermont August 6-12, call for a Novice and Training long-format three-day Tuesday through Thursday, a Beginner Novice/Novice one-day horse trial on Friday, capped off by a two-day Beginner Novice through Intermediate horse trial over the weekend.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this new event, and to show our support to the Green Mountain Horse Association,” said Nick Attwood, owner and founder of Attwood Equestrian Surfaces. “Their commitment to the equine community is unparalleled. And we look forward to being a part of the GMHA family.”

The past decade has seen a decline of upper-level eventing in Area I, most significantly at the Intermediate level, forcing accomplished riders to travel outside of New England to compete and qualify for national championships. Providing a modern, up-to-standard Intermediate course will allow riders at this level to stay on home turf and help stem the exodus of the area’s best riders and horses. The re-introduction of the Intermediate level will also serve to educate and inspire those at the lower levels, which supports GMHA’s mission as an educational facility.

Festival organizers also hope to attract riders from outside New England, including some U.S. Equestrian Team members and Olympic hopefuls who might welcome cooler temperatures and softer footing. Along with the aforementioned re-introduction of the Intermediate level, coupled with a long-format three-day as well as one-day and two-day horse trials, $10,000 in prize money, a slate of entertainment options and proximity to complimentary venues such as Millbrook — there are plenty of incentives for competitors to plan on attending the Festival.

Edwin Barron, Vice-President of Operations for Attwood, noted AES’s long-standing relationships with leading event riders Boyd Martin and Peter Barry among others. “We are in tune with the particular challenges that face event riders at all levels, and that starts with having good footing to train and compete on. As we are building more and more facilities in the northeast, joining in support of the Eventing Festival was a natural fit for the company.”
