Georgia Steeplechase Inc. has announced the return of a steeplechase meet to Georgia in 2018. The Georgia Steeplechase, formerly the Atlanta Steeplechase, is under new ownership and new management, and the races will take place April 7, 2018. The Georgia Steeplechase will be held at Kingston Downs, near Rome, Ga., the same location as the previous Atlanta Steeplechase.

The Atlanta Steeplechase organizers announced that 2017 was its last year of running this June due to low ticket sales and major sponsors dropping off. While the Atlanta Steeplechase was held once a year, the Georgia Steeplechase plans to add other events that will take place throughout the year.

According to the Georgia Steeplechase’s Phoebe Anne Hobbs, the new event will expand venues for guests’ enjoyment, with the addition of the Food Furlong, Brunch on the Backstretch and Vineyard Row, featuring unique wine tastings from Georgia’s own local wineries.
