Wellington, FL (November 28, 2011) – As a top adult amateur competitor on the Wellington show circuit, Amy Swerdlin has made many trips into the winner’s circle. Swerdlin was back in the spotlight during the Gold Coast Fall Fling, piloting her four-year-old Oldenburg mare Scholastica to the win in the First Level Test 1 class as well as winning the adult amateur high score for the show. Thanks to her winning score, Swerdlin also won the Everglades Dressage Adult Amateur High Score Award sponsored by Everglades Dressage and Bethany Peslar.

“We just purchased Scholastica at the 2011 Spring Elite auction at Vechta. She went to her first show only two weeks out of quarantine and hasn’t looked back since,” Swerdlin said. “I was very happy with the ride at the Fall Fling. She felt very soft in the bridle and elastic for both tests. First level tests can still be a little difficult for her at this point, but I am so pleased that she always tries her hardest. She has a fantastic temperament and seems to really enjoy going to the show and getting the extra attention. I look forward to showing her this coming winter season in the FEI 5 Year Old test as well as first level.”

Swerdlin, who trains with Juan Matute, earned a high score of 69.483% and was pleased to win the award from Everglades which included a beautiful embroidered saddle pad and a certificate for a training session with Peslar. “I think that it’s wonderful that Bethany and Rose Peslar from Everglades Dressage sponsor the Adult Amateur High Score award. They are fantastic people that have always supported the sport of dressage. It is really nice for amateur riders to have an opportunity to win a special award. In South Florida the amateurs are very competitive and most of the time we are in open classes against the top U.S. professionals and international riders. It’s so nice of Bethany to donate a training session to help amateurs such as myself pursue our riding goals,” Swerdlin said.

In addition to competing Scholastica, Swerdlin also shows her Hanoverian, Epikur, at the Grand Prix Level. Swerdlin has received her USDF bronze, silver and gold medals and has won several regional championships and placed nationally in Horse of the Year and All-Breed standings. Swerdlin, who is in charge of the on-site management of the Palm Beach Equine Sports Complex, has also expanded her equestrian pursuits to breeding.

Peslar, an accomplished dressage rider and trainer, congratulated Swerdlin and her mare on a great ride at the Gold Coast show. “Her mare is young and talented and very exciting to watch,” Peslar said, adding that she is pleased to once again be sponsoring the Everglades Adult Amateur High Score Award. “I had a great time being part of the award last year and I look forward to this winter season. The adult amateurs are the backbone of our show circuit and I love working with them. I had a wonderful experience with each winner who came to my farm last year for a free training session and I look forward to meeting and working with the winners again this year.”

Everglades Dressage is a premier equestrian facility located in the exclusive Grand Prix Village of Wellington. “I believe that when awards are sponsored in the adult amateur divisions it really gives the riders more to strive for and a nice chance for recognition,” Peslar said. In addition to teaching private lessons, Peslar is a highly sought after clinician. “I love teaching clinics because I enjoy spending several days with the same people and getting the chance to really watch them progress.”
