Amanda Derbyshire of England won the $30,000 Devoucoux Open Jumper Classic by five one-hundredths of a second to highlight Friday’s competition at the 43rd annual Lake Placid Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.
Riding Attack II, owned by David and Becky Gochman, Derbyshire was one of 12 entries from the starting field of 41 to reach the jump-off by riding without penalty over the 15-jump, first-round course at the North Elba Showgrounds. She was the 11th to return for the 7-jump tiebreaker and she moved into the lead with a fault-free ride in 34.425 seconds. The day’s final entry was Chelsea Moss of Medford, NJ and she almost took the win when she finished clean on Lorena 90 but her time of 34.475 seconds just missed, leaving her in second place and giving Derbyshire, 23, the win.
Third place went to Kevin Babington of Ireland who finished clean in 34.628 seconds on Mark Q, while Candice King of Wellington, FL took fourth with a clean ride in 34.681 seconds on Whistler. All four of the top finishers rode in Devoucoux saddles.

Other winners on Friday included Schuyler Riley on Andretti in the 1.35m Adirondack Flying Service Jumper Class; Paulena Johnson on Marlo in the Deeridge Farms High Amateur-Owner Jumper Class; Charlotte Jacobs on Kachina in the Arbor Hill Farm High Junior Jumper Class; and Laura Chapot on Bradberry in the 1.40m J.Lohr Vineyards & Wines Open Jumper Stake.
The Lake Placid Horse Show continues through Sunday when it culminates with the $75,000 Horseware Ireland Grand Prix of Lake Placid. It is followed by the 35th annual I Love New York Horse Show, July 3-8, which is highlighted by the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC., on Saturday, July 7. Following the $75,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix, the Richard and Diana Feldman Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Excellence is awarded to the rider who has won the most combined prize money in Lake Placid’s two Grand Prix.
