Kimberly Prince finished best of all the Americans in show jumping competition today, Aug. 23, at the Aachen CHIO, Aachen, Germany, Aug. 23. On Marlou, Prince was 11th (0/76.18) in the $28,450 STAWAG speed class. Germany\’s Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum won the class on Checkmate (0/73.73). Other American finishers were Beezie Madden, 28th on Judgement (4/74.85); Laura Kraut, 30th, on Anthem (4/75.04), and McLain Ward, 41st on Oasis (6/88.31).
In other jumping competition, American Jeffrey Welles finished fifth in the $12,230 accom speed class on Armani. Ludo Philippaerts of Belgium won the class on Tauber Van Het Kapelhof, a black Zangersheide stallion. Madden finished 15th on Authentic (0/79.51), Ward finished 23rd on Sapphire (2/86.12), and Kraut, on Allegiance, was 59th (16/70.15). These speed rounds are preps for the Nations Cup, scheduled for Friday afternoon (Aug. 26) Dressage competition starts tomorrow with the Prix St. Georges classes in the morning and the first half of the CDIO Grand Prix after lunch. There are no U.S. riders in the Prix St. Georges. Steffen Peters on Floriano, George Williams on Rocher, Guenter Seidel on Aragon, and Leslie Morse on Kingston are set to represent the United States in the team competition, which will conclude on Thursday (Aug. 25).

Four-in-hand driving also starts tomorrow with a dressage test. Tucker Johnson is the only U.S. driver on the start list.
