2009 Hampton Classic Tidbits

•    When Lyn Pedersen broke her shoulder six weeks ago schooling, her biggest concern wasn’t her health, or the pain, but not being able to show. •    When Lyn Pedersen broke her shoulder six weeks ago schooling, her biggest concern wasn’t her health, or the pain, but not being able to show. She spent her trip to the Hampton Classic watching her amateur-owner mount, Oberon, rise to the top of the first year green division with new pilot Avery Dimmig aboard.
“Avery and Rodney [Bross] have done a wonderful job with him, but I’d be much happier to be aboard rather than watching!” admitted Pedersen. “He’s a really special horse, and hopefully I’ll be able to get back on in time for Capital Challenge [Md.].”

•    Armani topped a 1.40-meter open jumper class, his first win after being short-listed for the 2008 Olympic Games with Jeffery Welles. The Dutch Warmblood spent nearly a year out of commission after suffering an injury that squashed his chance for a ticket to Hong Kong, but Welles couldn’t be happier to have his veteran partner back in action.
“This was his sixth horse show back, and he’s been progressing very well,” said Welles. “I intended on showing him in the [$30,000 Open Jumper Challenge] on Saturday, but the weather didn’t cooperate. But he went beautifully earlier in the week. He needs to keep getting in the ring and get back to jumping fit.”

•    Junior Jessica Springsteen, Colts Neck, N.J., continued her spectacular season during her trip to the Hamptons. She rode Stone Hill Farms’ Sublime to the small junior hunter, 16-17, and grand junior hunter titles, as well as earning the leading junior rider title.
