“Blood Rule” Withdrawn From FEI General Assembly Agenda

In a change of direction, the Fédération Equestre Internationale Dressage Committee moved to withdraw its original proposal about blood in the arena, an addition to Article 430.7.6, at today's first meeting of the FEI General Assembly in Rio de Janeiro. The FEI Bureau unanimously agreed to the withdrawal.

The Dressage Committee wants the Veterinary Committee to study the issue from a horse welfare perspective, and the Veterinary Committee has been asked to propose a rule valid for all FEI disciplines. The new rule will be discussed at the FEI Sports Forum in April 2012. It would be implemented Jan. 1, 2013 if passed at next year’s General Assembly.

The Bureau also voted to postpone decision about appointing an athlete representative to the Dressage Committee. The General Assembly meeting on Monday, Nov. 14 can be streamed for free on FEI TV.
