In two weeks, people from all over the world will convene in Lexington Kentucky for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, the world championships for eight different equestrian sports; and while Thoroughbred racing is not part of the WEG, several local Lexington Thoroughbred farms are opening their doors to the public.
According to Kentucky.com, at least seven Thoroughbred farms will be offering tours to the public, some at no cost:
WinStar Farm–No charge. Breeder of this year’s Kentucky Derby Winner Super Saver, WinStar will offer daily tours of the stallion barn at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. from Sept. 18 to Oct. 17. WinStar is located on Pisgah Pike in Versailles, Ky., and tours can be scheduled by calling 859-873-1717.
Three Chimneys– $45/person. Three Chimneys stands some of the most elite stallions in the world: horses like Big Brown, Dynaformer and Sky Mesa. Tours of Three Chimneys can be scheduled through Horse Capital Tours (www.horsecapital tours.com).

Lane’s End– $45/person. Lane’s End is home to some of the world’s most famous stallions such as A.P. Indy, Curlin and Smart Strike. Lane’s End is located in Versailles, Ky., and tours during the WEG can be booked through Horse Capital Tours.
Gainesway Farm– no charge. Home to Afleet Alex, Tapit, and the up-and-coming champion stallion, Birdstone, Gainesway is located in Lexington, Ky. Tours can be scheduled by calling 859-293-2676.
Vinery LTD– no charge. Vinery stands 11 studs, including Pioneerof the Nile and More Than Ready. Located in Lexington, Ky., tours can be booked by contacting 859-455-9388.
