Edward Wrigley, a passionate foxhunter with the Smithtown Hunt (N.Y.), died after suffering a heart attack Nov. 11 while foxhunting on Long Island, N.Y. He was 62.

Mr. Wrigley owned a successful auto repair business in Miller Place, N.Y., and was president of the Kiwanis Club. He began hunting with Smithtown in the 1970s and worked tirelessly for them—from chairing committees to attending meetings and promoting the organization’s mission. Recently, he began working to help restore the kennels that were built more than 25 years ago.

He met his wife Marge, a foxhunter for more than 40 years, in the field. Together they owned and operated the Riding Shop in Syosset, N.Y., and rode with long-time friend Helge Jacobson of Wading River Stable.

Mr. Wrigley’s gentle manner with horses and hounds was recognized by Smithtown. “There was not a position in the hunt that he did not have at one time, from master of foxhounds, huntsman, whipper-in, or fox, for the drag hunt,” recalled Marge.

“He died doing what he loved, hunting the hounds, in the woods, with his friends, on his favorite horse, his hunt horn was still firmly clasped in his hand,” she added.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wrigley’s survivors include: four children, Edward Clayton, Lisa Guercia, Kenneth Wrigley and Melissa Wrigley; three stepchildren, Kevin Bonnie, Jim Bonnie and Mary Grace Conti; two brothers, Charles Wrigley and Glen Wrigley; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to The Smithtown Hunt Hound Fund, 13 Columbine South, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
