•    When Leah DeMartini, Bronxville, N.Y., started leasing Vida Blue from Laura King, the mare had already been entered at the Pennsylvania National in the older age division, and the rules didn’t allow DeMartini, 15, to switch to the other section. But Jennifer Waxman was only too happy to fill in and pick up the large junior hunter, 16-17, and high-point large junior hunter honors along the way.
        “She’s just unbelievable,” raved Waxman, 18. “Some horses are just winners, and she’s one of them. She didn’t touch a rail all week.”

•    Samantha Schaefer, Westminster, Md., swept the large junior hunter, 15 and under, division for the second consecutive year, winning the championship aboard K & S Show Services’ Garfield and the reserve on Bishonen for Marianna Bishop Wade. Garfield, a first year green hunter, marched around the spooky Harrisburg arena like a seasoned pro. “He’s green, but he’s smart green,” said Schaefer. “It’s like he was born knowing how to do everything.”

• Scott Stewart’s World Time claimed the small junior hunter, 15 and under, title with Victoria Colvin, Loxahatchee, Fla., aboard. While Colvin has made several trips to Harrisburg on smaller mounts, this marks her first trip aboard horses.

• Laura Pfeiffer, Temperance, Mich., earned the junior rider sportsmanship award, and Sophie Michaels, New York, N.Y., won the pony rider sportsmanship award.
