Farbenfroh, the defending World Champion and member of Germany’s 2000 gold-medal Olympic team, will not be on their team this year. Nadine Capellmann’s mount was—amazingly—not included on the Olympic short list announced this week following his 10th-placed performance at Norten-Hardenburg on May 14 (see In The Country section, June 4).
Germany has won the team gold medal at every Olympics since 1976, and their federation has named eight riders to vie for the four team slots at the German Championships and Olympic Selection Trials in Balve on June 10-12. They are: Ulla Salzgeber, Isabell Werth, Heike Kemmer, Ann-Kathrin Linsenhoff, Klaus Husenbeth, Martin Schaudt, Hubertus Schmidt and Ellen Schulten-Baumer.
The Dutch federation has announced the eight riders on its “A Team,” from which the Olympic team will most likely be chosen. They are: Marlies van Baalen (Idocus), Ellen Bontje (Gestion Silvano N), Antoinette Falandt (Jarwo), Edward Gal (Gestion Lingh), Anky van Grunsven (Gestion Salinero, Gestion Krack C), Sven Rothenberger (Barclay II), Alex van Silfhout (Luxform’s Nimbly), and Arjen Teeuwissen (Gestion Goliath).
And the British have named their Olympic dressage team. It’s members are: Richard Davison on Ballaseyr Royale, Carl Hester on Escapado, Emma Hindle on Wie Weltmeyer, and Nicola McGivern on Active Walero.
