Eventers Leslie Law and Lesley Grant Wed

Great Britain’s Leslie Law and Canada’s Lesley Grant now share more than a first name after a truly international wedding in Aruba on Dec. 17.

The eventers first met at a coaching symposium in Canada where Law was one of the clinicians and Grant was a “guinea pig” rider. Law relocated to the United States after “re-meeting” Grant at Rolex Kentucky in 2005.

Law, the 2004 individual Olympic gold medalist, started a training and sales business with Grant, and they split their time between Bluemont, Va., and Ocala, Fla.

Although Law proposed 1 ½ years ago, the couple had to wait until Grant got her visa to marry. “We wanted a beach wedding, and I didn’t want to get married on Daytona Beach,” said Grant.

But they had just the ceremony they imagined when they flew off to the Caribbean and married on the beach at sunset. “We were there for a week,” said Grant. “We wanted to do it just by ourselves. We wanted it to be peaceful, romantic and no stress.”

Law’s supporters, Ann and Troy Glaus, came as well and acted as witnesses. Then Law and Grant held a huge party on New Year’s Eve in Florida to celebrate. “There were 120 people, including people we never invited,” said Grant. “It was fun. Now it’s all back to work.”

Although Law tried to convince Grant to change her last name, she felt that one Leslie Law was enough, and settled on Grant-Law as a compromise.
