Jimmy Fairclough, Tucker Johnson and Chester Weber–the same team that claimed the silver medal at the 2002 World Championships–will be the U.S. team once again at the World Four-in-Hand Driving Championships in Kecskement, Hungary, on Aug. 4-8.
That silver medal, accomplished at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, was the first medal ever won by a U.S. four-in-hand team. Individually, Johnson, 40, of Oldwick, N.J., finished fourth in Jerez; Weber, 29, of Ocala, Fla., finished fifth there; and Fairclough, 46, of Newton, N.J., was 25th.
At the CHIO Aachen (Germany) on July 14-18, Johnson, Weber and Fairclough drove to third place, behind the teams from Hungary and Germany.
The organizers have also issued an individual invitation to Jim Richards of Atlanta, Ga., to compete there, and he’s accepted the invitation. Richards, host of the Foxhall Cup CCI*** (Ga.), just took up driving two years ago. His wife, Julie, was named a member of the Olympic eventing team last Friday.
