In the Chronicle’s Derby Championship Preview issue, judge, rider and trainer Chris Wynne handicapped the field and said: “The Derby Championship is the Super Bowl. It truly is the best of the best of the sport in a challenging situation that we don’t put our horses in very often. At the end of the day, you have a champion of champions. Whoever the winner is will either be a spectacular rider or a spectacular horse—and probably both of them will be spectacular.”
