A surprising three rails down, all in the final line, dropped second-placed Ryan Wood and Powell to 21st place, leaving the door open for Boyd Martin and Welcome Shadow to move into second.

Allison Springer and her longtime partner Arthur also jumped a beautiful clear to move from fifth to third heading into this afternoon’s cross-country.

Overall, 12 pairs jumped double-clear, and two jumped clear with time penalties. Boyd Martin and Long Island T were eliminated at fence three, a triple bar, when the gelding stopped out twice. Dan Jocelyn withdrew L&N Lady Colina overnight.

Liz Halliday-Sharp withdrew Deniro Z after show jumping. Clayton Fredericks withdrew both Houdini and Foreign Affair and Hannah Sue Burnett withdrew Under Suspection and Harbour Pilot, leaving thirty-one pairs are set to tackle Mark Phillips’ cross-country course at 1 p.m. today.
