Jessy Du Breau Dies At Ox Ridge

Jessy Du Breau, owned by Laura Sexton, died suddenly while competing at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club Horse Show in Darien, Conn., on June 14.

Sexton was transported via ambulance to Stamford Hospital where she spent the night. She has been released from the hospital today.

Jessy Du Breau, owned by Laura Sexton, died suddenly while competing at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club Horse Show in Darien, Conn., on June 14.

Sexton was transported via ambulance to Stamford Hospital where she spent the night. She has been released from the hospital today.

“We are deeply saddened to report that Laura Sexton’s 18-year-old Selle Français mare, Jessy Du Breau, collapsed and died suddenly today after finishing her jump-off round in the high children’s/adult [jumper] classic at the Ox Ridge Horse Show,” said the show’s general manager Alan Griffin. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to Laura, to trainers Bonnie and Frank Cunniffe and to the grooms who cared for Jessy Du Breau.”

Jessy Du Breau was transported off the show grounds and a necropsy will be performed.

Sexton, Greenwich, Conn., and Jessy Du Breau (Flyer—Pivoine de Choisy, Double Espoir) first paired up for a few months in 2007, and they reunited in 2010. For the last five years they’ve been regular ribbon winners in the adult amateur jumper classes, winning tricolors at shows like the American Gold Cup (N.Y.) and the Winter Equestrian Festival (Fla.).
