Born from the ashes of the popular Horse Shows By The Bay show series in Traverse City, Mich., the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival will open its doors at Karin Flint’s Flintfields Farm this summer under new management.

After a legal dispute this winter that left the future of the show series up in the air, Horse Sports By The Bay Inc., owner Alex Rheinheimer reached an amicable agreement with Flint and Stadium Jumping Inc., the new managers of the show. Stadium Jumping Inc. will manage the new show circuit at the same location as the Horse Shows By The Bay series and has received licenses for the dates from the U.S. Equestrian Federation.

“All four parties came to a resolution to continue the dates forward in Traverse City with all parties accepting it and being happy with the decision,” said Matthew Morrissey of Stadium Jumping Inc. This summer’s show dates are July 1 through July 26.

According to Morrissey, the new circuit has one main goal going forward: “To put on some of the top hunter/jumper events in the United States while providing a show in a tourist town that has many attractions for the entire family to come and spend a month in Michigan.”

Rheinheimer started the Traverse City circuit in 2004 and also managed U.S. Dressage Federation shows at the facility. In 2014, the USEF withdrew her renewal application due to her loss of the lease of Flintfields Farm.

Rheinheimer was unavailable for comment, but in a press release about the agreement she said, “The region is in good hands for years to come. It was a difficult decision to move on from Traverse City, but that decision is easier knowing that Stadium Jumping has expanded its presence to Michigan, and I’m confident that Traverse City will be well-served by the change.”
