In the Netherlands, U.S. rider Laura Kraut placed 11th in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Valkenswaard, which was good enough for her take over the lead in the GCT series; read all about it.
Irish rider Paul O’Shea scored his second consecutive grand prix win by claiming the $50,000 Fieldstone Grand Prix at the Fieldstone Summer Showcase I (Mass.). He rode Instant Karma to the blue. Instant Karma’s part-owner, Michael Hayden, said she didn’t show talent early but is making up for lost time. “When she was a 3-year-old, she didn’t seem very promising so she was thrown out into the field,” Hayden laughed. “Our mistake—when we brought her back as a 5-year-old it turned out she was a bit of a super star. I kept her in Ireland for a bit, and I brought her back to Paul about two years ago.” O’Shea also pocketed a $25,000 Boston Strong Rider Bonus for winning back-to-back events at the Silver Oak Jumper Tournament the week before and Fieldstone.
Check out the fancy Freisian competing in the national show at Paragon Dressage in Estes Park, Colo. There also, Brian Hafner not only rode California Chablis to the top of the Prix St. Georges, but also guided Lomardo LHF to wins in the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix freestyle at the Paragon Dressage CDI in Estes Park, Colo. At the CDI at Centerline Events at HITS-on-the-Hudson, Canadians came and took over. They placed first through fourth in the Grand Prix, with Ashley Holzer winning on Jewel’s Adelante (68.93%); Sharon McCusker was the top-placed U.S. rider in fifth with Wrigley (66.10%). Holzer also won the Special, where Canadians were 1-2-3; Jacqueline Brooks flew the Maple Leaf in the Grand Prix freestyle, winning aboard D Niro (71.44%). Canadians Brittany Fraser and Maya Markowsi traded wins in the CDI*** Intermediaire while Fraser topped the Prix St. Georges. (see results)
The lowest eventing score of the weekend award went to Jocelyn Kriss, who won the training horse division at the Waredaca Horse Trials (Md.)with a 19.1 aboard True Illusion. Frankie Thieriot claimed the intermediate with Uphoria, (see full results). Holly Hepp had her four-star veteran Last Monarch out at the Full Gallop Farm August Horse Trials and won the intermediate division. (see results). Other events included: The Event at Santa Fe (N.M.) In Cumming, Iowa, Christian Heineking rode NKH Selena to the top of the $30,000 ARL Grand Prix.
