By riding three horses into the top 10 at the Haras du Pin CIC***-W (France), Belgium’s Karin Donckers earned enough points to become the 2012 FEI Eventing World Cup champion.

Donckers finished third at Haras du Pin, the last leg of the FEI Eventing World Cup season, on the 12-year-old Thoroughbred Lamicell Charizard (Gato Del Sol—Complet Agreement). She was tied for second place with Germany’s Michael Jung on Halunke FBW (Heraldik xx—Jolanda) after dressage and jumped a clear cross-country round, adding just 1.6 time penalties. A rail in show jumping dropped her to third, while Jung took the win. Pascal Leroy of France and Minos de Petra (Sioux De Baugy—Northia) finished in second place.

Donckers also finished eighth with Lamicell Unique (Vigo D’arsouilles—Milly) and ninth with Extebaria Van’t Verahof (Vigo D’arsouilles—South Gale Xx), both 8-year-olds.

Donckers became the first rider to win the FEI World Cup Eventing title, worth nearly $15,000, through scoring all points in just one outing. She finished two points ahead of Swiss rider Felix Vogg. Olympic team gold and individual bronze medalist Sandra Auffarth of Germany finished in third. Germany dominated the top ten with Ingrid Klimke finishing in fourth, Frank Ostholt in sixth, Jung in seventh and Dirk Schrade in tenth.
